Uniform Requirements

We maintain firm standards regarding dress and appearance.  The uniform requirements help maintain a professional environment, allow students to focus on the most important aspects of dance education, and inspire confidence that extends out of the classroom and into the daily lives of our students.

All students should be prepared for class with the appropriate uniform and proper shoes for the class they are taking, as outlined below.

  • All hair shoulder length or longer must be up and away from the face.  Buns are required for all ballet classes.
  • Students must wear footwear appropriate to the dance style.
  • No street shoes are permitted in the studios.
  • T-shirts, camisoles, and layered leotards are not acceptable.  Please purchase leotard styles that fit appropriately so you do not have to layer for modesty’s sake.
  • Warm-up clothing may only be worn only with the permission of the teacher.
  • Spandex (booty) shorts are to be worn ONLY by teacher permission.  Each teacher makes their own decision based on the genre/discipline of the class — please don’t assume that because your hip hop teacher allows them, your jazz teacher will! Decisions will be made at the beginning of the year by individual teachers and the students will be told during class. We recommend you do not buy any type of spandex short until after the dance year has started, to avoid unnecessary purchases.
  • Students may deviate from specific uniform requirements (extra attire, different color leotards, etc.) with the permission of the instructor.  Levels ending in 60 and up (ONLY) may wear solid colored leotards in addition to the basic black.

Please scroll down for specific uniform requirements.  Examples of leotard, tight, and shoe styles are in parenthesis after item.  You do not have to buy this exact item — use it as a guide when purchasing your uniform.

Please keep in mind that tight specific colors can be matched for your individual skin tone.  Please use your best judgment and call the studio if you have questions.
